Gynecological cancer is any cancer that starts in a woman’s reproductive organs. Gynecological cancers begin in different places within a woman’s pelvis, and include cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer, and vulvar cancer.

Of all the gynecological cancers, only cervical cancer has screening tests that can find cancer early, when treatment can be most effective. Since gynecological cancers are hard to screen for, it is especially important for women to recognize warning signs, and learn if there are things they can do to reduce their risk.

Radiation therapy is often used to treat gynecological cancers. Treatment depends on the kind of gynecological cancer, if it has spread, and how far it has spread. Two main types of radiation therapy are used to treat gynecologic cancers, external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy).
