Learn More About Lymphoma

Manage and overcome the risks associated with this condition

Lymphoma is the most common type of blood cancer and is a cancer of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system helps protect our bodies from infection and disease and is made up of cells and organs including the thymus, bone marrow, spleen, tonsils, and appendix. Specifically, lymphoma is a cancer that affects lymphocytes, which are a type of white blood cell. Knowing which type of lymphoma you have is important because it affects your treatment options and your outlook.

Many sub-types of lymphoma exist, but the two main types are Hodgkin lymphoma (also called Hodgkin disease) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is the most common type of lymphoma.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma can cause many different signs and symptoms, depending on the type of lymphoma and where it is in the body. Sometimes it does not cause any symptoms until it grows quite large. At this time, there are no widely recommended screening tests for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The best way to find lymphoma early is to pay attention to possible signs and symptoms and regular medical check-ups for people with known risk factors for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Effectively Target Cancer Cells and Shrink Tumors

Radiation therapy can be used as a primary or complementary treatment

Targeted Treatment
Radiation therapy allows for highly focused, single-dose Radiation therapy can be used to target cancerous cells in a specific part of the body, while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues, which can reduce side effects
Improved Survival Rates
Radiation therapy is often used in combination with other treatments such as chemotherapy. When used together, radiation and chemotherapy can have a synergistic effect that can significantly improve a patient's chance of survival
Palliative Care
In cases where the lymphoma cancer has spread and is not curable, radiation therapy can be used to relieve symptoms such as pain and discomfort, which can improve a patient's quality of life and help them maintain a sense of dignity and control during a difficult time
